Bupa International forms alliance with Oman insurance company
1 October 2003
Bupa International, the largest international health insurer in the world, has formed a strategic alliance with Oman Insurance Company (OIC), a leading health insurer in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The alliance between the two companies will combine Bupa International's 30 years' experience in global healthcare with OIC's knowledge and understanding of the UAE's health insurance market. OIC will become the local insurer for Bupa International customers and will sell products through its sales force and network of brokers. Bupa International will continue to provide customer services and claims support from its offices in the UK.
Oman Insurance Company's strong reputation for quality was a key consideration for Bupa International in terms of protecting the interests of existing members. OIC has won the Dubai Quality Award for finance (2000), holds ISO 9001 and Investors in People accreditation and is the first and only insurance company in the UAE to have won the prestigious Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award.
Bill Ward, managing director of Bupa International, said: "We are very excited about working with OIC and the opportunities this will bring. This alliance puts us in a very strong position to grow and develop with the UAE's continuous expansion."
Mr Abdul Muttalib Mustafa, general manager of Oman Insurance Company, commented: "OIC believes quality guarantees progress and for this reason we are delighted to be working with a company with such an impressive global reputation. Our focus on quality has brought positive operational results and we look forward to increasing our market share through this alliance with Bupa International."
