Parkside House celebrates official launch
6 September 2005
Parkside House, the new Bupa nursing home on Parkside Road in Reading, will celebrate its official opening on Tuesday 13 September 2005 at 12.30pm.
New residents will join representatives from Reading Borough Council and Bupa Care Homes in a champagne toast at the opening ceremony at the home. Guests will include Councillor Graeme Hoskin, Lead Councillor for Community Care and Health and Eileen Means, Director of Housing and Community Care.
The new purpose built home offers 75 beds for the elderly and the frail. Nursing and residential provides quality long-term care for older people in the Reading area. The three-storey building includes en-suite bathrooms to all 75 bedrooms and special features including underfloor heating and adjoining rooms for partners.
Peter Ludford, Director of Bupa Care Homes, commented: “The success of this project is testament to the excellent relationship we have had with everyone involved in bringing this development to Reading. We are looking forward to welcoming our first residents over the coming days and will be accommodating long and short stay residents, both under contract with the council and privately funded”.
Graeme Hoskin, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Community Care and Health said: “We are extremely pleased to see Parkside House opening. The home is the result of an excellent working relationship between ourselves and Bupa and an innovative deal where we’re providing the land of the former Wilton House residential home and securing 30 of the beds for our clients. There’s been a desperate need for more nursing home places in Reading for some time and this will help local residents stay in Reading for their care instead of moving outside of the borough. Parkside House is a part of our strategy to deliver an expanding range of care option choices to fit the varied needs of our elderly residents, as well as helping to reduce delayed transfers from hospital. We hope the residents will enjoy the new facilities.”
