Summer fete marks official opening of £1.5 million makeover for local care home
Local Bristol care home, Amerind Grove, is getting set for its summer fete this Saturday, with staff and residents excited at the chance to reveal the home’s new £1.5 million makeover to the local community.
Visitors to Amerind Grove’s fete can look forward to refreshments and entertainment including a brass band, tombola, raffle and a variety of other stalls for all to enjoy, while children can enjoy the bouncy castle and have their faces painted. And, to make the occasion even more special, the Lord Mayor and Mayoress of Bristol will be joining in the fun and officially opening the new extension at the home, which has been funded by Bupa as a part of the company’s commitment to improve standards of care for older people in the UK.
This major investment project has meant an increase in capacity and services at the home, which now has an extra 21 en-suite bedrooms, 10 of which will be dedicated to those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Amerind Grove also now offers its residents the very latest entertainment technology, including large flat screen televisions in living areas for everyone to enjoy. Its two dementia care units have also been linked by the addition of a new garden lounge, thereby extending activity facilities and day areas for residents.
The total number of people the home can now care for has risen to 171 across both its special dementia and nursing units and the development has proved a real hit with the residents, families and staff at Amerind Grove.
Home manager Daisy Matthews said: “We’ve been excited about the extension for some time and now that it is complete, we are really proud of the way things look and all the benefits the development gives to our residents. We are looking forward to welcoming local visitors on Saturday for our summer fete, not only to enjoy the entertainment but also to see our new look.”
