Makeover for Manchester school, courtesy of Bupa

Children in Irlam, Manchester will soon have a more stimulating learning environment, thanks to a team of Bupa employees. The 20-strong team of volunteers from Bupa’s Salford Quays office will be renovating St Teresa’s RC School in Irlam, Manchester, decorating the library, paving a pathway, replanting the allotment and painting some of the school’s exterior.
One of the volunteers, Rachael Hughes, Bupa’s financial analyst commented: “We are thrilled to be given the opportunity to give something back to the local community. We hope the project will help create a brighter, more interesting, and fun learning environment for the children. We are also hoping to be able to provide further equipment for the school such as books through planned fundraising over the next few months.”
Mr Joseph Bourke, head teacher of St Teresa’s RC School explained why he is grateful for the support of the Bupa team: “We’re over the moon with Bupa’s offer of help - this size of project would have taken us months, if not years to complete without them.
“The children are very excited and really pleased to see other adults taking an interest in their school. The children will maintain all of the work carried out in the grounds themselves at their after-school gardening club – they call themselves “The Soil Soldiers”. This initiative provides a great link for us with the local business community, which we are keen to foster over the coming years.”
The redecoration is part of Bupa’s “Leadership Talent for Tomorrow” scheme, a talent management and development programme open to all permanent employees who have the potential, desire and commitment to become leaders at Bupa.
