Bupa team to raise money for children with brain tumours

9 September 2008

Eight Wakefield care workers will be putting on their walking boots to raise money for children with brain tumours in the Three Peaks sponsored walk in Yorkshire, starting on 20 September. The care workers, from Bupa’s West Ridings Nursing Home, have chosen to walk for Levi’s Star, a charity set up in memory of Levi Ringer, who died from a brain tumour aged six.

Nichola Holroyd, an activities coordinator at West Ridings Nursing Home, organised the walk and explained why the charity is very close to her heart: “Levi’s mother is a teacher at our local high school and when Levi tragically died 2 years ago our staff felt compelled to help. The response has been tremendous - so many people applied to take part in the walk that we had to turn some away. I’ve completed the Three Peaks walk before, but I’m not sure the others know what they are letting themselves in for – there will be many blisters!”

The Bupa team will be walking 26 miles over the Yorkshire Dales, over a two day period. Anyone interested in donating should visit www.levisstar.co.uk for more information. Bupa will be fund matching all money raised as a part of its Community Connections scheme, which aims to support the communities in which its employees live and work. All proceeds will be presented to Levi’s Star at a charity ball on 18 October 2008 at the Cedar Court Hotel, Denbydale, Wakefield.
