Bupa 'office angels' work their magic on Chertsey centre for disabled children

9 September 2008

Disabled children and adults at the Chertsey-based, White Lodge centre, can now enjoy bright new surroundings, thanks to the help of ‘office angels’ from Bupa UK Insurance, who gave up their time to redecorate and spring clean the centre on Thursday 4 September.

The 11-strong Bupa team from Staines began by painting and tidying the gym and training room at White Lodge, before moving on to redecorate two further rooms in the centre, which are used by disabled children and adults.

Sam Herschell, who led the Bupa volunteers, said: “It was amazing to see how much can be achieved when people work together as a team. Everyone was so enthusiastic and proud to be helping White Lodge as it prepares for its children to return from their summer holidays. We wanted to help the centre look its very best for them!”

White Lodge supports both young and older disabled people, as well as their families and carers, in Surrey and the surrounding areas. The centre provides therapy services, residential leisure breaks, in-home family help and short breaks with carers. It also offers nursery education to young children with cerebral palsy or similar disabilities and Adult and Community Support Services (ACSS) to physically disabled people, helping them to develop their interests and achieve their goals.

Cindy Barnes, quality assurance manager of White Lodge, said: “We are delighted by how bright and fresh the centre looks and are grateful for all the time, effort and support the Bupa team put in to help White Lodge look its very best.”

The redecoration of White Lodge is a part of Bupa’s commitment to support the local community in which its employees live and work. Over the next 18 months, some 600 Bupa employees from the company’s offices in Staines will be volunteering their time to make a real difference to local communities and charities.
