Bupa raises standards of care for the elderly
17 September 2007
Bupa’s promise to both extend capacity and improve standards in the care home sector is exemplified in its £500,000 refurbishment of Arbrook House Nursing Home in Esher, Surrey.
Bupa’s chief executive Val Gooding CBE will attend an important event to mark the official relaunch of this luxury home on Wednesday 19 September.
Built in the 1930s as a period property, Arbrook House is set in wooded grounds and offers all the comforts of modern living. All 40 en-suite bedrooms have been stylishly redecorated. In addition, broadband internet access and flat screen televisions have been fitted in every room. Electronic profiling beds have also been installed. These remote controlled beds help restore independence by giving residents the support they need to sit up and get in and out of bed on their own.
Meanwhile, the communal areas now benefit from new lighting, a residents’ bar and a lounge with a 42 inch plasma television with satellite channels. The home offers a packed calendar of social activities, including parties and exercise groups to suit every level of mobility in addition to supper events, trips to local theatres and other attractions. The care home staff also support and encourage residents to pursue their own hobbies. One ambitious group even established their own choir to rival the professional musicians and performers who regularly pay visits to the home.
Some of the professional healthcare services provided at the home include occupational therapy, speech therapy, chiropody, physiotherapy and aromatherapy.
Bupa Care Services’ Oliver Thomas, regional director, South East, said: “Careful consideration has been given to the needs of our residents which, in turn, have been matched with modern solutions. The aim was to afford residents maximum independence. The extensive facilities at the home and its beautiful surroundings ensure that the experience for our residents is both tranquil and fulfilled.”
