Bupa carers send gifts from 'shop of dreams'

20 November 2008

Around 150 staff from Bupa care homes in the South East will be singing, modelling and dancing to help collect gifts to send to disadvantaged children in the UK and overseas.

The activities are part of ‘One World, One Team’, the Bupa Care Services’ annual South East conference which takes place at The East Sussex National Golf Resort in Uckfield today.

The group will be split into 15 teams and set challenges such as building a tower from spaghetti, writing a team song and making models from balloons. Each team will be rewarded with tokens which are converted into ‘fun money’.

The next stage will be for the winning team to visit the ‘shop of dreams’, where they can spend their ‘money’ on presents for children in three chosen charities – The Corum Family Trust (UK), Sarnelli House Orphanage* (Thailand) and Samaritan’s Purse (Africa). The teams have to fill as many boxes as possible with presents before gift-wrapping the parcels ready for delivery.

The event is supported by Bupa Community Connections whose aim is to encourage its employees to help maintain the health and wellbeing needs of local communities.

Oliver Thomas, South East regional director for Bupa Care Services, said: “As we’re approaching Christmas and thinking so much about gifts, it’s good to be reminded of those who are disadvantaged, particularly children.

"It’s very satisfying to think that, by the end of our day, we will be able to send at least 150 boxes of presents to children around the world, as well as having had the opportunity for our teams to strengthen working relationships in a fun way."
