Bupa brings together its worldwide care homes

Bupa has united its worldwide care homes operation as part of a number of changes to the group’s structure.
The company’s Spanish care homes business, Sanitas Residencial, will now report directly to Mark Ellerby, managing director of Bupa Care Services in the UK. This brings them together with the company’s aged care operations in Australia and New Zealand, which already report to him.
The changes make Bupa the leading UK-based international care home provider, with more than 430 homes in four countries.
Sanitas has been part of Bupa since 1989 and Mark Ellerby has been a member of the Sanitas Residencial board since 2002. As with Amity in Australia and Guardian in New Zealand, Sanitas Residencial will become part of Bupa Care Services, but remain a separate business.
Mark Ellerby said:
“Sanitas Residencial has an excellent management team led by Domenec Crosas who will continue to run the business. We will, however, look for ways to share operating processes, good practice and ideas between the four businesses to ensure we deliver the highest form of care to our residents.
“Expansion into overseas care home markets is part of Bupa’s long- term strategy, and we will continue to seek opportunities to develop our aged care business in other countries.”
Sanitas Residencial has 38 homes, with six more under construction. It has 4,717 beds and more than 2,700 employees.
Amity Group in Australia and Guardian Health Care in New Zealand together have 7,000 beds in 96 homes.
