Bupa International appoints new managing director
27 April 2005
Keith Biddlestone has been appointed managing director of Bupa International, the world's largest expatriate health insurer with almost 300,000 customers living in 190 countries.
Keith was previously managing director of Bupa Asia, covering insurance and hospital businesses in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, China, Malaysia and Australia. Before moving to Hong Kong, he spent six years as director of healthcare partnerships for the company's UK insurance business during which Bupa introduced hospital network products and specialist networks to provide quality assured care for its customers. He has held various positions in Bupa's hospitals and healthcare services arm including managing several of the company's hospitals. His early career was spent working for commercial healthcare companies and the NHS where he trained as a hospital administrator.
"Bupa International is a fantastic business with a great future", said Keith. With 35 years' experience in the international health insurance market, we really understand the health and care needs of expatriates around the world and how those needs change and evolve. We are constantly researching working patterns and lifestyles in different countries and new markets and tailoring our products and services to meet our customers' needs. We have recently introduced some new benefits and enhancements, which ensure that our members have the most comprehensive cover and range of benefits available to keep them well and protect them when they fall ill, wherever they are in the world."
Bupa International recently won a Queen's Award for Enterprise, one of the UK's most prestigious accolades for business performance. The award was given in recognition of Bupa International's outstanding achievement in international trade over a six year period. It is the second time the company has won a Queen's Award, having previously been recognised in 1999 for export achievement.
Keith added: "At Bupa International we pride ourselves on product innovation and excellence in customer service, the cornerstone to our reputation as the global medical expert. Our latest annual survey shows that 76 percent rate our service as 'excellent' or 'very good' and a rising proportion of customers saying they will definitely renew their membership. These results are particularly encouraging considering the special demands of the expatriate health market such as the complexities of different health systems and the fact that generally expats are moving towards more short-term insurance."
