Christmas fair to celebrate £1.6 million makeover at Bloxwich care home

28 November 2008

Bupa’s Bloxwich care home, Parklands Court, will be getting festive tomorrow as it opens its doors to the local community for a Christmas Fair to reveal its £1.6 million makeover.

Members of the local community will join residents, relatives and staff at the home for a day of festive cheer, enjoying traditional Christmas carols and fair, including mince pies, sherry and a chocolate fountain. Guests will have the opportunity to win prizes in the Christmas tombola, buy Christmas cards made by residents and take a tour around the newly renovated home.

Home manager at Parklands Court, Amanda Dudd said: "The residents and staff of Parklands Court are delighted to welcome the local community into our home, to not only enjoy the day’s festivities but to see our wonderful new look, which includes extra communal and activities spaces for our residents and a complete redecoration throughout the home. We also now have a new dementia unit consisting of 12 en-suite bedrooms. We hope to play our part in meeting growing local demand for specialist dementia care."

Commenting on the new dementia care facilities, Vonnie Manton, head of dementia care at the home said: "Parklands Court now has three different dementia care units, each one catering for different stages of dementia. This allows us to meet the individual requirements of residents more effectively, giving them the level and quality of care they require. We are thrilled to open our doors to the community and for them to see the high standards of care and facilities we have to offer."

Parklands Court’s £1.6 million makeover is part of Bupa's multi-million pound investment in improving standards of care for older people in the UK. This year alone Bupa Care Services has invested around £70 million in new buildings, extensions and refurbishments, a large percentage of this being spent on improving the standards of specialist dementia care.
